Genealogy retreats are all the rage now and you are going to want to jump on the band wagon. It’s just another way to enjoy your most favorite hobby in a unique way that typically includes games, food, and lots of laughter. Read along to learn more!
Genealogy: The Conference
Genealogy conferences and workshops have been the standard for learning how to research your family history. We sit in packed lecture halls with our eyes glued to the PowerPoint up on the screen. We try to glean as much information from leaders in our field as we possibly can. Sometimes, it’s like taking a drink from a water hydrant!
Genealogy conferences and workshops aren’t for everyone. Personally, I love them, but the new, young, budding genealogist may not. Instead, these newbies are opting for spending their time at genealogy retreats.
Genealogy Retreats are Packed with Fun
I started noticing mentions of genealogy retreats on Instagram about a year ago. I was intrigued. Their focus was of course genealogy or genealogy related subject matter, but the venue was much more relaxed. They had decorations, games, food, and well, it looked like a party! I have always wanted to learn more.
At RootsTech this past February, I had my chance. I met up with my old college friend, Hilarie Robinson from LegacyTale. I learned that she and her husband are holding their very first genealogy retreat coming up in April. The event is called The Family Storytelling Retreat.
Imagine for a moment, you and your mother, sisters, or daughters, getting together to talk genealogy and family history for 2 days in a fun and relaxing way. Even my mother and sisters (who are not genealogy fans…cue eye roll) would love it!
The Family Storytelling Retreat will offer you:
- Memory making in new ways;
- Family storytelling to strengthen relationships;
- Personal growth and healing as you reflect on blessings and challenges in your life;
- Proven writing and interviewing strategies for capturing family stories;
- and a special presentation from Twile. [Twile has been named one of the 50 up-and-coming genealogy sites in the UK and their unique visual timeline will make sharing your family history fun for all ages.]
